08 Resolutions
so i disappeared again. i assure you it's was all for a good cause - i've been working on a hotly-anticipated project that i shall not mention on this blog so as not to attract attention from crazy fanboys. 2007 wasn't bad at all but could've been much better. hence, i've got myself 8 resolutions for 2008.
1. get back to updating this blog frequently (pretty obvious) 2. find more time for my baby AI engine - simulacra x 3. keep in touch with friends on and offline (i should really get over being busy/tired all the time) 4. do exercises every morning before work (to fix my back problem) 5. perfect the art of street fighting, 3rd strike style 6. read at least, one novel. 7. watch a live juve game. 8. find music, listen to more music, make music
last time i made new year resolutions, i was probably like 7 yrs old. that gives you an idea of how serious i take this stuff. this blog needed an update anyway. oh well, i think the most important thing i need this 2008, after being drained in 2007 is inspiration to keep going. happy new year!
stuff that has kept me from blogging: moved house... bought stuff... been broke... workaholic tendencies... no home internet... family stuff... TV... crate digging... rediscovered a gem... laziness and whatnot. it's all ok now. i think i've found a way to balance all these and more will be back soon in full effect.
finally! no more mouse and keyboard for me. the little baby for baby Djs (like myself) has landed. it's a small step towards what i've wanted to do for a long time but never had the time thanks to the fact that i also always wanted to be a games programmer. now that that goal has been accomplished, i can concentrate on turning another dream into a reality - learning to play a musical instrument! it's the Hercules DJ Control MP3 controller (what a lame name). got it off a seller on amazon for about 60 quid. traditional Djs might go like "wtf!", "piece of crap". i know. i'd love to go the turntable route and be like my mentors, peanut butter wolf, madlib, j-rocc, and the rest but i've got my reasons: i'm a noob, it's what i can afford at the moment, and vinyl is losing the war to digital technology. this is where is piece of hardware comes in. this controller is meant to be used with mixing software such as VirtualDJ (which comes with it), PCDJ, Traktor, and many others. Most pros use Serato, and FinalScratch. i've had VirtualDJ for quite a while and been getting familiar with it, but i've had to use the mouse and keyboard and it just didn't feel right - thats why i bought this newbie controller. at the moment, i'm focusing on beatmatching/mixing techniques creating mixtapes like these. VirtualDJ allows you to record your sessions to mp3s (pretty sweet). hopefully if i get any good with it, i'll upgrade to a much better controller like the DAC-3, and also upgrade to a better mixing software like what the pros use. anyway, i'm off to play with my new toy.
another wretched christmas day again. far away from my family, and now in a new city with no friends, i just spent the whole day watching all the episodes of heroes, while eating a complete balanced diet (cornflakes, apples, carrots, some weird pastry, spaghetti from last night, ...).
i'm not really a TV shows person but i must say "heroes" is a mighty good show even though it's a massive rip-off of "the x-men". for those who don't know, the show started late september and is currently on hiatus for the holiday season till late january. so far 11 episodes have been released and if like me, you've got lots of free time nowadays, you can watch them all if you follow the first link in this post. my favorite character at the moment has to be "hiro nakamura", the guy who can bend time and space. why? cos he's hilarious (the future hiro doesn't seem to be though), a programmer (just like me), and he's japanese (i admire their culture and speak the basics). besides don't you wish you could travel through time? on the other hand, "niki sanders", the alter-ego babe, shouldn't be in the series at all, i mean she doesn't have any power, she's just a sick schizo and needs a doctor fast. her scenes bore me to death. i hope "sylar", the inevitable supervillain, finds and kills her. her brain isn't even useful to sylar. well i predict all of the current cast, except for "hiro", pom-pom girl "claire", and neo-boy "peter petrelli" will all be killed by sylar and be replaced with a new set of heroes in season 2. too early to talk but we'll see how it goes.... and yeah merry christmas.
for the few souls who used to follow my blog, just a summary of what's happened to me since july. i completed my msc in septemeber. then after a series of job interviews, i got 3 job offers from venom, eurocom, and naturalmotion. all good companies, but i decided to go with naturalmotion cos i felt they wanted me the most and besides they kick ass. then i had to move down to oxford from the dull city of hull. i managed to find room in shared house with cool peeps. oxford is a nice city filled up with lots of young people. apart from my work and house mates, i'm still yet to make friends though but it's only a matter of time anyway. then i almost died last week if not for what i believe to be divine intervention. i just recovered from brainial meningitis. i still have no idea where i picked it up but i suspect i was from a sandwich i ate during lunch one afternoon at work. ended up in the hospital for 5 days. a very scary moment for me but i'm 100% back now and happy to be alive. my advice to you is to be very wary of the symptoms of meningitis and avoid cold sandwiches at all costs.
i've managed to converge my old dead blog with my website. this is still work in progress and very much under construction. i'm back cos i need to get passionate about my hobbies again. i hope to seriously get into hiphop again and also start a personal game project soon (not sure what exactly - got ideas?).
